Home Gym Makeover

This project was done in partnership with The Home Depot and contains affiliate links

Our home gym has been doubling as a workout room, storage, and playroom for a few years now and has been in desperate need of a make over.

It was time for give my husband the man cave he deserves. We started by replacing the carpet with thick gym mats.

It was a start but it still felt so amateur in the room. I longed for the feeling of a luxury fitness center you would find at a boutique type hotel. So I went in search of inspiration.

I love perusing The Home Depot’s decor items for unexpected gems. The Home Decorator’s Collection not only has great finds online for great prices, but I also had it all delivered right to our home for FREE! I had the peace of mind that if I wanted Utopia’s return anything for whatever reason, I could do so via mail or take it to my local The Home Depot store for a full refund.

Here is the mood board I came up with

The shape of this mirror for the powder room complimented the terminator looking wall panels. A gym needs good towels so I chose the Turkish ultra soft white bath towels from Home Decorators Collection. The black metal baskets were going to make great storage and the stool will add seating.

Before we unboxed all the goodies we wanted to first give the room a fresh coat of paint. After searching for the perfect black, I decided on Behr’s Limousine Leather. Not only did we paint the back wall but we took it all the way to the ceiling for an accent wall that feels like it never ends.

Unboxing always feels like Christmas and I was very happy with the quality of all the Home Decorators Collection items I ordered. They felt well made and I’m comfortable that they’re gonna last a long time.

No space is safe from black paint in my house, especially bathrooms.

The wall panels we installed in the bathroom for an accent wall was a great alternative to wallpaper or other treatment. Its unique, eye catching, and was very easy to do. No power tools required, only adhesive on the back of the large panels.

Priority was to create a landing space at the entry. These metal baskets were perfect for that.

We upgraded pieces in the bathroom to matte black like the faucet, towel holder, and even vanity light. I love the look of the exposed Edison bulbs in this light fixture.

Just look at the difference!

Now we have storage and a place for all the nice to have gym things like plush towels, water bottles, and even a tiny dish to serve as a jewelry holder.

We basically put a tuxedo on our home gym. And I love every bit of it!

We added equipment that would easily stow away vertically to take advantage of wall space and leave floor space for workouts.

The wall shelving is the exact style I was looking for and works well with everything else in this space.

I’m beyond happy with how our home gym turned out and can’t wait to use this space regularly. You can see the full video tour here.
