I have a few white Ikea Expedit shelving units that have been with me for quite some time and I was trying to find a way to revive them. The white color made all the scratches and scuff marks even more noticeable. While shopping for fabric on fabrics.com I came across an eye catching print that matched the rest of my decor. After cutting the fabric to size and folding the unfinished edges under, I used my trusty multipurpose spray adhesive to adhere the fabric to the outside of the shelving unit. In no time, the shelves had a whole new look and some color to break up the all white furniture. I plan on having some plexiglass cut to size at my local hardware store and placing it atop the units to give it a more “finished” look. The plexiglass will also help the fabric last longer by avoiding direct wear and tear.
*********** update ***********
I’ve finally assembled the storage doors and boxes that fit inside the Ikea storage cubes. The plexiglass finishes it off perfectly! I apologize the pictures aren’t the greatest due to the lighting in the room (another item on the to do list). Now I can hide most of my crafting tools and extra yarn inside my chic “cabinet”.
