Baby Beanies – Holiday Elf Hats

As a beginner in the crochet world, baby hats have been quite a challenge for me. After slowly building on my skills the last year I wanted to give it another try. My inspiration was a cute knit elf hat my sister did last month so I found this crochet version at Oodles4Noodles.

My Version

NAILED IT!

I finished both a pink/cream and blue/cream version. The only change I made to the pattern was to the small pom-pom at the end of the hat. Pom-poms are adorable on baby hats and beanies, but I don’t like the possibility of tiny threads of yarn coming loose around a baby’s face. If not tied tightly enough, small bits of yarn could be easily aspirated or find its way into baby’s eyes. So I accomplished the same pom-pom look with a very long crochet chain and created a stable and baby friendly pom-pom. Found an easy to follow tutorial here.

These baby hats make great holiday gifts and are very popular as baby photo props. I am excited to play with different color combinations.

    1. Hi there! Looks like that link is no longer available =( unfortunately I do not have a copy of the original pattern for this baby hat. I regret not having copied it down since I really love this pattern. Hopefully we can find a similar pattern!

      1. look on cherishedbliss.com…I found a stocking cap that will do nicely.

  2. If you don’t mind sharing the size hook you used, and weight of yarn, I’m sure I could figure out the pattern from that. I love the shape of this hat pattern! 🙂
