5 Holiday DIY Projects in Under 30 minutes

RYOBI and I have gotten together once again for a series of super simple DIY projects that can make great gifts for the holiday season. All 5 of these projects can be completed by a tool beginner with just a handful of supplies. Feel free to get creative and add your personal touch to these ideas!

1. Ornament Display

This triangle shaped ornament holder uses the RYOBI 12 inch sliding compound miter saw to achieve the 30 degree beveled cuts

Supplies:

• hobby board (any desired width/length)
• super glue
• painters tape
• fishing line or clear thread
• extra small command hook
• ornament

Steps

1. cut hobby board down to desired length using 30 degree beveled cuts on each end to create a triangle shape where the corners meet seamlessly. Triangle shape can be made into any size, big or small by simply lengthening or shortening the boards.
2. apply super glue to the ends and connect the pieces of wood together, using painters tape to secure corners while glue dries.
3. take the extra small command hook and adhere it to the inside of one of the corners.
4. cut varying lengths of fishing line/thread and loop thru ornament(s), tying a knot to secure the thread.
5. hang ornament(s) from the command hook with the thread.

2. Tile Magnets

Featuring the RYOBI 18V ONE+ Hot Glue Gun

Supplies:

• penny tiles, any kind
• disc magnets, 10 x 2mm
• glue stick

Steps

1. peel individual penny tiles off the mesh sheet.
2. glue 1 magnet to the back of 1 tile.
3. use new magnetic tile piece creatively on any magnetic surface.

3. Tile Clock

This project requires a RYOBI 18V ONE+ HP compact brushless 1/4″ impact driver and 18V ONE+ circular saw.

Supplies:

• RYOBI tile bit
• tile of choice
• diy wall clock mechanism
• 1×3 wood board, desired length
• painters tape
• tape measure
• pen/pencil

Steps

1. locate spot where the clock will be placed.
2. place painters tape over the area to prevent cracking/chipping when drilling.
3. measure and mark desired spot to drill thru.
4. carefully drill hole thru the tile using the impact driver with tile bit.
5. peel tape off.
6. insert and install clock mechanism according to instructions.
7. set tile piece aside.
8. mark on wooden board where you want the clock to sit.
9. adjust circular saw to 22.5 degree bevel.
10. adjust circular saw depth to 3/4 of the thickness of your board, so as not to cut all the way thru the board.
11. using the circular saw, plunge cut into the wood board creating an angled channel for the tile to sit.
12. depending on the thickness of the tile, more than 1 pass might be necessary to widen the channel.
13. place tile clock into the slot created.

4. Jewelry Display

This project uses a RYOBI 18V ONE+ compact brushless 1/2″ drill and 18V ONE+ compact brushless cut off tool

Supplies:

• 1/16″ drill bit
• 4″ wide hobby board, cut to 4″x 4″
• pencil
• speed square or ruler (optional)
• 220 sanding sponge (optional)
• 3/16″ brass rod
• tile coaster (optional)

Steps

1. using cut off tool, cut (2) two inch sections off of the brass rod, set aside
2. take wood board and mark desired location of holes, minimum 3/4″ apart.
3. using 1/16″ drill bit, drill holes all the way thru the board in the marked locations.
4. if necessary, sand over any rough edges left over from drilling the holes.
5. using 3/16″ drill bit, drill 2 holes on the backside of the board near the bottom corners, only 3/4 of the way thru the board, careful not to go all the way thru.
6. with super glue, secure the brass rods into the holes just drilled, creating a way for the board to stand/lean
7. place jewelry into the holes and display over top of a decorative coaster if desired.

5. Engraved Wooden Spoons

This project uses a RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless Precision Rotary Tool Kit

Supplies:

• wooden spoons

Steps

1. use pen to trace desired design onto the wooden spoon.
2. using an engraving accessory, slowly carve over the traced design.
3. that’s it!
